Our original mission for Avner's Fund was to raise $1,000,000 to carry out clinical trials research into pancreatic cancer.
This mission, which we hoped and dreamt about reaching in 4 or 5 years was achieved in August 2010 – less than 2 years after the fund was launched. The support from individuals, companies, those who have been affected by the disease and those who simply recognize that the statistics need to change – has been overwhelming.
We have revisited our mission and while we want to continue to fund research, we also want to make a difference in other areas of pancreatic cancer. In light of this broadened mission, we have formed a Foundation and the new name is the Avner Nahmani Pancreatic Cancer Foundation Limited. Our principal purpose is to promote the prevention and control of pancreatic cancer and to achieve this:
- We will support and promote research into the prevention, diagnosis, causes, treatment, management and cure of pancreatic cancer
- We will support and promote the development of quality care and treatments
- We will support and promote improved support systems and management for people affected by pancreatic cancer, their families and carers;
- We will facilitate the sharing of information and other resources relating to pancreatic cancer;
- We will promote a deeper understanding and awareness of pancreatic cancer within both the medical and broader community.
