Awareness growing at 2nd Annual Palm Beach Walk

The second annual ‘Put your foot down’ walk took place on a fine spring day on October 17th.

More than 150 people turned up and Palm Beach was again awash in the colour purple. Michael Luscombe, CEO Woolworths Limited, kindly emceed the event and renowned surfer and local identity Midget Farrelly presented awards.

Between registrations, donations and the good appetites that people brought along for the BBQ, more than $12,000 was raised for the GI Cancer Institute. This money will go towards further studies into pancreatic cancer.

Sausages were generously donated again by Mr Beak. David Beak also kindly helped man the BBQ. The new flavours cooked went down a treat with all the walkers and volunteers. Coca-Cola Amatil, our beverage partner, supplied the Deep Spring water for the day. We also gratefully acknowledge Woolworths support on and leading up to the day. Thanks also to Pittwater and Manly Councils for donating the use of their marquees.

The day wouldn’t have been a success were it not for the army of volunteers behind the event. Sincere thanks to: Lynne Umbers, Jude Hawkes, Karen and Michael Luscombe, Maysoon El-Ahmad, Alex and Catherine Nicholson, Sietse Pos, Justine Bridgland, Donna Patchett, Matt and Marday Luscombe, James Luscombe, Kate Zuliani, Steph Luscombe, Tim Twiname, Samantha O’Brien, Wendy Pockett, Jacinta and Rick Lovett, Lee-anne Dean, Sharon Rech and Jannah Meredith.
