1st Hobart Walk
04 October 2011
On Sunday 25th September our first walk in Tasmania was held at Wentworth Park, Hobart. Tasmania is blessed with many stunning beaches and the beaches along the walk are no exception.
66 people registered for the walk and more than $2,300 was raised. This money will go towards the Garvan’s vital research into mapping the genetics of pancreatic cancer tumours.
We gratefully acknowledge all the walkers, volunteers and the companies who donated products and equipment.
Special thanks to Alex Nicholson for arranging the walk and to all the Nicholson family for their help on the day; Justine Bridgland and the team at Red Jelly for creating artwork to promote the event and advertising it far and wide and for the team of volunteers from Red Jelly that helped out on the day; Director of events, Lynne Umbers and Lynne’s children - Hugo, Abi and Carmen for travelling from Melbourne to assist; MC Anthea Halliday, who also travelled from Melbourne, and the volunteers from the Garvan Institute. A big thank you to Rick Patterson OAM, former ABC presenter who was our guest celebrity for the event.
